Works Cited Contest--Major Assignment #1

The first person to post how to cite one of the three sources for major assignment #1 (the film, the Paul Auster article, and the Charlie Rose interview) gets a prize. Post your citation as a comment on this post.

A good source to find out how to cite sources for a Works Cited page is here.

Research Paper Checklist

Major Assignment #1 (due Thursday, Oct. 8)

For our first major research paper of the class, we will write on Philippe Petit (not surprisingly). I am providing you with: three sources, possible research questions, possible thesis statements, and even some possible main ideas (to be used in your body paragraphs). Philippe Petit / Man On Wire

On Tuesday, we began watching the excellent film titled "Man On Wire." The film tells the story of frenchman Philippe Petit's clandestine high wire walk atop the twin towers in New York City in 1974.

Once we finish watching the film, we will write a short research paper about Philippe Petit. To begin our writing process, you need to answer the response questions which I will hand out today. Click here to download the response questions.

In addition to the film, we will supplement our research of Philippe Petit with an excellent interview with Charlie Rose (below), as well as a brilliantly written tribute to Petit by the author Paul Auster (which I will hand out in class...also available here).

Sample Research Paper

Today we read a solid example of a research paper that I found on Diana Hacker's website, www.dianahacker.com. Students should refer to this example if they have specific questions regarding how to properly format their research papers using the MLA formatting guidelines. Read the sample paper here!
